Companies need to continue developing a positive culture that embodies both individual and organizational wellbeing. HOW businesses do this will define their reputation for years to come.
The Deloitte Global Human Capital Trends 2021 report reinforced how brands need to re-imagine their strategies on employee wellness as the centerpiece of their decision-making. Offices need to reset strategies, modify policies and reinvigorate return-to-the workplace plans.
Here are several practical tips for organizations to maintain balance and boost productivity.

An inclusive approach
Wellbeing embraces the social, financial, community and physical aspects of our lives.
Companies must amplify the message that they care and Microsoft Daily Pulse creates a space for HR to do just that. The program acts as a conduit in creating a continuous dialogue between leaders and the workforce to drive performance.
Cyber wellness
Over recent years, cyber wellness has become a pillar of total wellbeing. People are working from home and experience added pressure to manage technology. Cyber wellness can evaluate security awareness and mitigate risks. Companies have the responsibility to play an active role in creating adept digital citizens. Organizations must also consider security settings to protect their online meetings while being mindful about the importance of digital detox.
Workers want to be heard
Headspace 2020 Mental Health Trends Report recently highlighted the fact that 25% of all American employees are losing an hour of work a day due to stress. Indeed a poll of 2,000 Americans commissioned on behalf of the Danish cheese brand, Castello, found that 89% have been trying to bring themselves daily joy to combat stress with various degrees of success.
Worker concerns about finances, health and personal relationships have always existed and are rarely acknowledged in the office. Since COVID-19 reared its super ugly head, they have been struggling with the shift to homeschooling, anxiety about financial insecurity and personal health.
To that end, a national survey done by telehealth provider MDLIVE titled “Worried Sick: U.S. Workers and the Burden of Sick Day Stress,” polled 2,000 employed Americans and found a full 42 percent reported they were more stressed about taking a sick day in 2020 than in previous years.
People cannot leave their emotions at home. Now, more than ever, employees need easy access to evidence-based mental health tools and resources to help them deal with the demands of today’s fast-changing world.
COVID-19 created an urgency among employers to invest in diverse mental wellbeing offerings – from virtual meditation to online counseling – through wellness coaches.
Companies would do well to invest in preventative support with digital mental health platforms, mindfulness programs or onsite yoga.

Work versus personal life
Stress in personal relationships can impact focus. Headspace research shows 51% of employees observe workplace stress hemorrhaging into their personal space. The same survey found 89% of employees wanted their organizations to offer mental health benefits to staff and their dependents while embedding resources into all aspects of their lives. Caregivers at home could benefit from receiving digital tools from organizations such as self-care videos or mindful exercise and games where their kids can assist in managing daily routines.

Knowing vulnerability is not a weakness
The combination of in-person and digital tools provides people with a range of options to make sure they can access the right support at the right time. Companies like BP invest in actions (like free access to Headspace) to help deal with personal stress management. They implemented other support services including podcasts, written materials and “health moments” where co-workers can share their experiences. BP’s EAP service offers 24/7 confidential counseling, a life management service and coaching for managers. During 2020 World Mental Health Day, BP colleagues shared their stories in a video entitled ‘This is me’ to shine a light on the struggles that individuals have experienced amid COVID-19 and the importance of asking for help.
Building new skills
The demand for social skills like communication, entrepreneurship or leadership will skyrocket in the coming years. Patty McCord, former Chief Talent Officer Netflix would ask managers to imagine a documentary about their employees that asked the following questions:
What would the team be accomplishing six months from now?
What specific results would you experience individually and as a team?
How would the work be different from what the team was doing today?
What skills would you need to make the images in the movie become a reality?
A recent survey conducted by The Vitamin Shoppe in partnership with WW (formerly Weight Watchers), on the country’s 2021 goals found that 49% of those polled wanted to focus more on science-backed approaches to health and well-being, with 41% desiring more “me time” and 37% were actively trying to remember to be more in the moment (37%).
All food for thought as entrepreneurs continue figuring how to best engage (and better) their employees in a post-pandemic world.

6 Ways to Persuade a Customer to Do What You Want

If you want to get a “yes” from a consumer, write down these strategies from top salespeople and entrepreneurs to win people over.

The word “influencer” is used a lot in business, but how does the power of persuasion really work? An Everreach study explains the elements that companies use to impact their customers to get that “yes .”
For business, the principles of “reciprocity” and “scarcity” are big factors in the persuasion game. Customers are more inclined to appreciate your business, for example, when you give them something personalized or unexpected. It’s that same vein, they tend to want the things that aren’t everywhere, that’s why limited-time offers tend to be a high selling point.
Clients also like to feel confident . Your company can build a lasting relationship by emphasizing your “knowledge” and “authority” in your industry. Try to give your service a trial period, allowing your future customers to make a small commitment to get started.
What makes us say yes? Researchers have tried to answer this question for 60 years and there is no question that being persuaded is science. Here are six universal factors that will guide our decisions:
1. Reciprocity. This is defined as the obligation to give back what you have received from others. In one study it was found that if a waiter gave a mint at the end of the meal, his tip would increase by three percent and for two mints he would be tipped 14 percent. But if the waiter left a mint, turned and gave them another while saying “for you especially I give you another mint” the tip would increase 23 percent.
This increase was influenced not only by what was given, but how it was given. The key to using this technique is to be the first to give and make sure it is personalized and unexpected.
2. Scarcity. When British Airways announced that they would not have the London to New York twice daily flight available on the concord because it was not profitable, the next day sales skyrocketed. It is not enough just to tell people the benefits they will get, you also need to highlight what is unique and what they can lose .
3. Authority. People will follow the experts for their credibility . Physiotherapists, for example, are able to persuade most of their patients to accept their diagnoses with diplomas taped to the wall in their offices. It is important to point out to others what makes you credible and a knowledgeable authority before you attempt to influence them.
4. Consistency. On one street, few people were willing to put a blanket in their front yard to support a safe driving campaign. But on a similar street, more than half the people wanted to do it. Why? Because 10 days ago they had agreed to put a small card in the window of their house to support the campaign. That little card was the initial commitment that led to a 400% increase.
When looking to influence using the principle of consistency, you should look for voluntary, active, and public commitments and have them written down.
5. Sympathy. People prefer to say yes to those who like them. What makes one person like the other? In a series of studies from two business schools, a group of MBA students were told to embrace the idea that “time is money” and to start negotiating right away. In this group, 55 percent of the young people were able to reach an agreement with the people. The second group was told to exchange some information before starting the negotiations and to identify any similarities that they shared with the people. In this group 90 percent of the students were able to have successful results.
6. Consensus. People like to see the actions of others to see their own. Hotels usually put little cards in bathrooms to persuade guests to reuse towels. This is done by informing them of the benefits to the environment.
This strategy leads to 30 percent acceptance. What if on cards it was said that 75 percent of the guests reused the towels? Changing a few words about what other guests have done is the most effective message .
Science is telling us that instead of relying on our own ability to persuade others, we can target what others are doing.

5 Leadership Books You've Never Heard Of

This article was translated from our Spanish edition using AI technologies. Errors may exist due to this process.

Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.
Whenever we look for a reference to bibliographic sources on leadership, we get the same titles as always.
The classic books, for example: How to Win Friends and Influence People, by Dale Carnegie; The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, by Stephen Covey; o The 21 Irrefutable Laws on Leadership, by John Maxwell.
And on the other hand the contemporary classics like: The leaders eat at the end, by Simon Sinek or Tribus , by Seth Godin.
But don’t get me wrong, all of these books are extraordinary and should definitely be on your reading list this year in case you haven’t read them.
However, there are other books that did not receive as much publicity, were not lucky enough to have a major publishing house, or simply did not have to live in the age of the internet boom. That does not mean that they are not good, in fact, there are some that to my taste are better than some of the more popular titles.
For this reason I bring you a list of 5 leadership books that you probably had not heard. Perhaps some of them are no longer for sale or are not easy to find, but if they ever fall into your hands you should read them.
1. The ABCs of Leadership by John Maxwell . This small but concise book is still readily available in bookstores, yet it is generally overshadowed by the rest of its author’s more renowned titles.
Maxwell has written and published more than 30 books among which he has some very successful bestsellers, among them: The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, Sometimes you want to and sometimes you learn, Everyone communicates but few connect, etc.
Although this book does not stand out among the most important titles of Maxwell, it is a compact but very rich in content paperback. Only 125 pages are enough for Maxwell to accurately explain the essential qualities of a leader.
2. Larry Hammons Teen & Youth Leadership. This book is only available used and you will hardly find it in bookstores. It is a small but practical and concise book. With only 100 pages Hammons manages to convey the way of exercising our leadership much better than any course or short video.
This is an excellent book for anyone who is starting or wants to take leadership foundations and although its title is focused on young people, anyone can read and immediately get tons of benefit from it.
3. The Warrior Ethos by Steven Pressfield . Pressfield has also been a very prolific author in recent years. He writes from fiction and non-fiction books, among which are The War of Art .
For the same reason some of his books have gone into the background, such is the case of The Warrior Ethos, which we could translate as the Warrior Code.
This book brings small stories of ancient Greek, Macedonian, Spartan and Roman warriors whose code allowed them to fight for ideals much greater than themselves, ideals that every leader must embrace such as honor, magnanimity, empathy, inspiration, etc.
4. The Samurai Leader by Bill Diffenderffer . Definitely one of my favorite titles. In this book he introduces us to the Zen philosophy of the Samurai and gives us a unique vision of how these ancient warriors faced complex situations that are now brought to the business world.
Here you can find values forgotten in the West but that are essential for any modern leader.
Honor, courage, loyalty and compassion are some of the principles that were part of the Samurai code. Diffenderffer lived much of his life in Eastern countries and was CEO of large multinational companies.
His experience and passion for oriental culture and business led him to write this excellent compendium of lessons that we will hardly see in other similar books.
5. The MOXIE Leader by John Baldoni . This book is still available in most bookstores, however I decided to put it on this list because in my opinion it has not received the amount of attention it deserves.
The MOXIE Leader should be considered one of the contemporary classics of leadership. A book that describes the modern leader who corresponds to the new generations.
Its title refers to the acronym moxie, talking about how to have an open body M, O pportunities find, develop your X Factor, I nnovar and E mprender.

What to Look for When Buying Recycling Bins
Aesthetics: Your recycling bin should not stick out like a sore thumb. It should blend with the environment, meaning it should look good while doing the job. You can also incorporate your brand on it to instill a sense of ownership.
Capacity: an important thing to consider is the recycling bin should be large enough to suit your recycling needs until it is emptied. You should consider how much waste your workplace generates every day, and how many people do you expect to use each container between cleanings? These questions will determine the capacity you need. From a few gallons to a few dozen gallons, your options might include personal, commercial, and industrial sizes. The size of your recycle bin will also determine the size of your recycle bags and should fit accordingly.
Material: factor in each container’s durability, cost, and how it’s constructed. Make sure the unit you decide to purchase is made from durable material preferably plastic or stainless steel.  What you decide to recycle will also determine the type of recycle bin you need. Are you disposing of standard waste, medical waste, food waste, etc.?
Easy to clean: recycling bins have a specific purpose and that is to safely dispose of waste without impacting the environment. Look for units that are easy to clean and sanitize.
Importance of Recycling
Instituting recycling in your workplace is important as waste has a huge negative impact on the natural environment. More and more amounts of harmful chemicals and greenhouse gasses are released from rubbish in landfill sites. Recycling helps to reduce the pollution caused by waste as well as help you to address high raw material prices, rising costs of waste treatment and disposal, and pressure to increase the sustainability of your operations.
While recycling is a good waste management strategy, practicing source reduction is even better. If waste is not generated in the first place your businesses will save money from handling and transportation costs, whether the waste would end up as refuse or recyclable material. The first item on a small business’ waste reduction plan is to implement a waste audit to determine what can be reduced, reused, or recycled.
From both an economic and environmental standpoint, it is best to implement waste reduction measures as well. Decreasing the number of materials that must be disposed of or recycled is more economical than paying to collect and transport materials to a landfill or recycling plant.

The Secret That Luxury Influencers Like the Kardashians Know About Scaling Down Your Market for Bigger Impact

March 14, 2021 5 min read
Opinions expressed by Entrepreneur contributors are their own.
I know it may sound contrarian to some, but the secret ingredient to expert positioning in the luxury market is this: scaling down your target market.
It may sound intimidating at first. But when it comes to selling ideas and aspirations, turning the volume way up on who you are (while turning down most of the market) is the way to spark success at the premier level.
A top-down model instantly positions you as a high-caliber luxury brand that commands attention and communicates an air of exclusivity.
Taking this huge leap of faith can seem somewhat daunting…but it also resonates with these mavericks at the core of who you are. Your inner genius deserves the recognition of an elite clientele who is willing to compensate you for it. And an instinct deep inside of you knows that.
Related: F*** You Pay Me Founder Lindsey Lee Knows People Are Tired of ‘Accepting Less Than You’re Worth’
When these visionaries step into their power and own their personal brand, they are able to sidestep the mainstream market and fill the gap at the height of their industry. This not only lays the foundation for their reputation as an iconic personality, but it will set a precedent for what’s to come.
These marketing mavens leverage this expertise to hyper-target a sophisticated group with a high net-worth . . . and present their visions as coveted jewels.
Pre-positioning your premium offer where money is no object
Luxury influencers can connect the client with their ethos, and position themselves as the distinct person able to provide elite service above all others. By narrowing their focus, influencers of the highest-caliber build credibility, position themselves as visionaries and command top dollar for their services.
The Kardashian model of influencing can seem like the safer route on the surface…flooding the media with selfies and promotions can garner attention. After all, Kim K. has become a household name. However, the idea that influencers have to appeal to a vast audience to grow a fan base is a paradox.
We both know that expertise is the foundation that creates lasting value.
Only once an influencer has positioned themselves as an exclusive commodity should they introduce themselves and their growing influence to a wider audience to create a stream of passive income.
To be a luxury influencer who boasts a $100k offer is not for the faint of heart. Complete confidence is a prerequisite.
Some people simply will not like you, and that is ok. It’s to be expected. Because being at this level is often polarizing. However, others will become devoted evangelists to your personal brand.
No one can compete with your unique vision
To be straightforward, luxury influencers are never concerned about the competition.
They are the movers and the shakers…the pioneers of their proprietary vision. They are timeless contributors to culture. They carry themselves with confidence knowing that there isn’t one single person out there who can contribute the peerless perspective and expertise they have to offer.
Related: At Age 12, He Was Cyberbullied On YouTube. By 15, He Was Running a Profitable Marketing Agency for Instagram Stars.
It has come to be expected of influencers to share the personal details of their growth, their journey, and their changing beliefs as they filter the world through their exceptional lens.
Even though this can create some trepidation in the mind of even the most confident innovator, this is the realm that separates those who lead from those to follow.
Those who are able to get really comfortable with the idea that they are not for everyone can create a space where they can shine. Remember, the influencers who try to be all things for all people aren’t working within the laws of luxury.
Clients willing to pay top dollar for a specific aesthetic are not looking for someone who can do it all. They are looking for a leader to add value to their brand.
Forget the naysayers and those who do not understand you. Your devoted audience will breathlessly follow your every move.
This loyal tribe will gladly pay to allow your vision to influence theirs if they are provided with accessible ways to do so. It’s a necessity as a high-end influencer to have an elegantly-run Facebook group overflowing with quality content and inviting discussions, a Clubhouse room, or other social media platforms where your fans can interact with others who believe in what you have to offer.
Once your reputation as an in-demand influencer is established, it is simple to leverage that into creating high-value products that do not place you in direct contact with your customer. Always keep direct access as a select, in-demand luxury that is only available to a select few willing to pay premium prices.
High-ticket influencers are behind the red velvet rope where personal 1:1 interaction is prized. They are an exclusive commodity. Not everyone has access to Elon Musk or Richard Branson . . . and that adds to their mystique, instantly making time with them a more desirable commodity.
Influencers are leaders, not teachers. The way they interact with the world, the choices they make, and the content they provide set that precedent.
They deepen your message to their audience and leverage their authority to create a wider impact. It’s the perfect time to use your influence to create wealth and leave a lasting mark on the world.
Even in obscure niches with small audiences, my clients are booking $250k three-day consulting packages when they apply the skills to commercialize influence at the luxury level. If you are the best in the world at what you do, you too can leverage your unique genius into sophisticated and lucrative commercial deals like consulting, partnerships, product development, and licensing.

Earn From YouTube Without Adsense:- Step by Step Tutorial
Now lets jump to the step by step tutorial to creating actual YouTube Income Stream, Please don’t forget to follow all steps and watch video tutorial along with for better understanding, so let get started…
Step1:- Finding Thumbnail Icon for our sound effects:-
Therefore you need a icon for your Sound Effects videos, This icon will be used as a thumbnail on videos, and this will be same for all sound effect videos. This means you need to create only 1 thumbnail showing your icon on it for all the videos.

Icons8
Go over to the site ICONS8 Search for “Sound” in search bar and hit ENTER.
Now that’s gonna give you all of different icons of what you can use on your channel. Just try to find something unique or different, you can filter your search by color, design, etc.
Select one of your choice and then click on that icon and it will take you to download link button. Now click on this link button and download it to your PC for FREE.
Step2:- Finding Sound Effect Audios for your videos:-
Now you need audio files those sound effect can be used in your videos free of charge and you can still be able to monetize it, and won’t get any copyright strikes anyway. Therefore we have 2 different platforms where you can grab that for free.

Sound Bible

Search for 2 Different Sites the first one is SoundBible and FreeSound here you’re gonna be able to come across like thousands of different audio files which you can for your videos, you can hear the sound by clicking on this play button.
Select something you wanna make a video about from these 2 sites. you will just select that you will click on it and select mp3
Click on mp3 and that’s gonna immediately download it to your computer and now you are ready to use it on your videos.
FreeSound even gives you better licenses and better you reuse or licenses so you are going to be able to use this without getting any copyright strikes and without getting any issues.
FreeSound is better option but as well you can use the SoundBible if you can’t find some different sound effects on here as an alternative.
Step3:- Combining Sound Effect Audios With Your Icon Thumbnail:-
Now you have your audio file and you got your icon now you just need to combine them into a video so you can actually upload that video on YouTube to get paid. So now you gonna see how exactly to do so…

Clideo Video Maker

Go to the site Clideo and you will click on a VideoMaker link, now click on choose files and select and double click on that icon you have downloaded.
Now you just want to click on add audio so just add your sound effect audio with double click. you can use any video editing software you prefer, I’m just using this because it’s absolutely free and it’s cloud-based so you don’t have to install it to your computer.
Now after uploading your Sound Effect Audio File just click on “Create” Button, and it gonna create your video.
Create a Separate FOLDER for your all sound effects videos, so that you won’t mess up with it.
Step4:- Uploading Sound Effects Videos On Your YouTube Channel:-
Now you are ready to upload your Sound Effects Videos on your YouTube Channel. My personal suggestion to create 5-10 videos at starting because you don’t have any video on your channel so try to upload at least 50 sound effect videos in you 1st Week, and after you should upload 10-15 videos on 2nd Week. From the 3rd Week of your channel you should upload at least 1 video daily for best channel growth at least for 6 MONTHS.
Now before uploading your Videos to your YouTube Channel, you must have a YouTube Channel with proper niche name such as “SEV Sound Effects for Video Creators, Crazy Sounds, Cool Sound, etc ” also upload proper channel art and logo on your channel.
If you don’t have any channel yet just Start creating your Sound Effect YouTube Channel now.
If you have any query and doubts about YouTube Channel, Here is a FAQ Guide for you.
After creating your YouTube Channel just upload your video on your channel, Write proper “Title, Description, and use Tags.” try to have a look of your competitor’s channels and get ideas for title, description and tags.
Most important thing is to be consistent, otherwise YouTube won’t promote your videos for long time and you won’t be able to complete Adsense Monetization criteria for earning another passive income from youtube.
Step5:- Monetizing Your YouTube Channel Without Adsense:-
Therefor you can Monetize your YouTube Channel with 3 different ways, first 2 methods can be implemented right away and 3rd one take time. but all of these monetization methods are legit and workable, and you can set automation for generating regular passive income from these 3 methods for sure.

3 ways to monetize YouTube Channel
1.YouTube Adsense Monetization:-
YouTube Adsense Monetization is very powerful in this niche because there’s always gonna be people searching for those sound effects videos as they need to use these in their own projects so they will come over to your videos and they will download your videos so they can actually use it in their projects and you’re gonna get paid from ad revenue from YouTube Adsense.
But it take time because you need to be eligible for Adsense approval “1k Subscribers + 4k Hours Watch-time” so this monetization method can be applied after getting Approval.
If you fulfill the eligibility criteria within 12 Months you gonna make very nice passive income from Adsense Ads Revenue it may be 5k-20k per month as similar channels making it so.
2. Download File Description Link Monetization:-
Here you need to go to the site FileUpload, Don’t worry you will not have to sell anything here, this is a free cloud storage for data so you can upload different types of files on here.
This is the platform that will actually pay you to upload your files and whenever someone downloads that file you’re gonna get paid for that and people will come to your videos to your sound effects videos because they need them for their projects and they want to download it.
So you will come over to FileUpload and click on start uploading files and grab your Download File link and share this link in the description of your YouTube video. and you are gonna get paid up to $7 per 1,000 downloads which is really amazing.
If you upload 1 file you won’t make much money, but think about wider picture to upload more then 200 files during 6 months then each month you gonna get millions of file downloads from this site and within 6 month you can create $1k-$2k monthly passive income stream.
Therefore you’re not just providing you channel visitors with a download link that they are looking for and people will be grateful for that so you’re doing them a favor but also in return you’re making a lot of money in pure passive income, so it is a win win monetization strategy.
3.Monetize Your Videos With Affiliate Offer:-
Therefore we gonna Add a Affiliate Offer Link in the Video Description as a Second Link which perfectly go with your channel’s visitors interest so that your channel’s visitors wanna grab your affiliate offer and you gonna get paid for…

Vidnami
Here we go over the site Vidnami, this is a software that can create stunning videos, you can create so quick go from script to video in seconds. it is a very versatile video creation platform.

It also can convert your blog post or any other content into a high quality video by using artificial intelligence which automatically combined copyright free images and videos into your content. so it’s gonna be really time-saving because they can be edited with just a single click.
So it’s proven that your visitors they’re actually making videos because they come to your video to get your sound effect video they want to download it which means that they’re already creating some projects and creating some video so they need a platform or software which can help them in video creation process.

Why A Focus On Employee Trust Is Essential

In 2017, Harvard Business Review published the results of a decade-long study on the neuroscience of trust. A team of researchers led by Paul J. Zak, director of the Center for Neuroeconomics Studies at Claremont Graduate University, found that trust in the workplace had a positive impact on everything from company performance to employee turnover.
“Trust is like the air we breathe,” Warren Buffett once said. “When it is present, nobody really notices. But when it’s absent, everybody notices.” If you want to create a workplace where employees breathe easy and innovation isn’t stifled, you need to make trust a priority. Here are four reasons why a focus on trust in—and between—your employees is essential to your company’s success.
Trust Increases Productivity
Two of the most insidious productivity killers are lack of direction and micromanagement. When employees don’t know which goals and tasks are most important, they can’t commit to achieving them. And when forced to spend their time ticking a manager’s boxes instead of figuring out how to do what needs to be done, productivity plummets.

In high-trust organizations, employees are given autonomy. Managers set clear expectations and then let their people deliver on them however they think best. Being in control of their own work is a powerful motivator for employees: a Citigroup/LinkedIn survey found that 64% of respondents would turn down a 10% raise in favor of more flexibility in their work.
Like the proverbial chicken-and-egg dilemma, though, building an autonomous team takes trust. Managers need to believe in the competence and commitment of their employees, and employees need to trust that managers won’t suddenly change direction on them. Yet the productivity payoff is clear: Zak’s team found that employees in high-trust organizations reported 50% higher productivity than their counterparts in low-trust ones, a result their own measures confirmed. The distrust conveyed by micromanagement, on the other hand, will cause productivity to crumble.

Trust Enables Collaboration
The modern workplace thrives on collaboration. Research has shown, time and again, that teams of diverse individuals are better at solving problems and creating new solutions than individuals working alone. What business wouldn’t want to encourage that?
Not surprisingly, such collaboration also requires trust along a number of dimensions. First of all, team members need to trust that their colleagues are capable of doing their part of the shared work to a high standard. They also need to trust that their co-workers will be accountable for delivering by agreed-upon deadlines. Collaboration won’t work when—like those dreaded group school projects—one person ends up doing everything because they can’t count on other group members to pull their weight.
When contributing to a team effort, employees also need to trust that their individual contributions will be recognized. There are few things more motivating than being praised for your ideas—and few things more demoralizing (or infuriating) than having someone else steal them. High-trust teams give credit where credit is due, and that keeps collaboration humming.
Trust Fosters Creativity and Innovation
Remember how the autonomy in high-trust organizations fuels productivity? Well, Zak and his research team found that it is also a vital ingredient in innovation. When employees are free to try a variety of problem-solving approaches, innovation results.
Here, too, trust among team members is an essential ingredient for success. Individuals will be reluctant to point out innovation opportunities if identifying areas for improvement is synonymous with being a troublemaker. Managers must prove their trust in employees by being open to suggestions, even uncomfortable ones.
When it comes to proposing solutions, mutual trust is even more important. Team members will be hesitant to share their ideas if they fear their colleagues will dismiss or even ridicule them. Some of the most profitable ideas may look crazy at first glance. When respect for those who come up with them is lacking, your business will be the loser.
Trust Enables Conflict Resolution
Think about someone you really trust. Do you always agree with them? Chances are you don’t. Conflict occurs between even the happiest of married couples and long-time business partners. The reason their relationships endure is that they trust each other. They let that trust move them toward resolution instead of resentment.
As a business leader, the last thing you want to do is babysit your employees. While you certainly care for them, you have plenty of other pressing matters to attend to that don’t include getting in the middle of petty arguments. When a baseline of trust is established between co-workers, they’re more equipped to resolve conflicts on their own.
Of course, when conflicts grow out of control, you’ll need to step in. But more often than not, a high-trust team will be able to autonomously resolve minor conflicts without your involvement. They will grow on their own and strengthen their bonds day by day.
Each of your employees has unique strengths. When you establish an atmosphere of trust with and among your employees, talented individuals can use those strengths to collaborate and innovate to your company’s benefit.

Demand-Driven Planning: Lessons From The Supply Chain

The coronavirus pandemic has caused economic upheaval around the world, and supply chains were dealt some of the biggest blows. As vaccine distribution accelerates and many areas see case numbers decline, supply chain leaders can’t spend too much time catching their collective breath. Instead, it’s time to get in front of the next disruption, and that means focusing on demand planning.
Demand planning is all about building an accurate forecast of future demand to try to meet customer needs as precisely as possible. Underestimating demand comes at the obvious cost of missed sales opportunities and decreased revenue, but overestimating can be just as costly because excess inventory takes up space and cash.
According to insights compiled by Deloitte in 2020, the companies that were best equipped to respond to the disruption driven by the pandemic had strong relationships with their suppliers and tools in place to offer visibility into their broader supply networks. Those lacking both supply chain visibility and the capacity for accurate projections were left scrambling to implement systems that should have been in place all along.
To make sure your organization is well-equipped for the next disruption, whether it’s a natural disaster, major weather event, labor upheaval, or something else entirely, implement demand planning with these three steps:

1. Stay flexible to reduce disruption and promote growth.
Much of supply chain management is about reducing the impact of disruption. If you depend entirely on a single supplier, for example, your supply chain is extremely rigid; good management might involve diversifying and adding a few suppliers to the roster. If that’s not possible, or if all your suppliers depend on a single source of raw materials—making diversification more difficult—you can maintain excess inventory to help you get through disruptions. This extra inventory ties up physical space and capital, so it should offer a realistic buffer without requiring an excessive investment.
A resilient supply chain doesn’t just help your company avoid catastrophe—it actually encourages growth. According to research from Bain & Co., resilient supply chains result in a 15%–25% increase in manufacturing output, a 40%–60% decrease in the time necessary for product development, and a 20%–30% boost in customer satisfaction. Don’t wait for the next disruption to start making the supply chain changes that can yield these benefits.

2. Change before you have to.
If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that massive disruptions demand a proportionally rapid and innovative response—and the organizations that fail to see the paradigm shift and respond in an appropriate and timely manner will likely get left behind. The best way to set yourself up for future disruptions is to make small changes now that are aimed at improving efficiency and supply chain resilience. If your existing processes have been adequate so far, you might still be overlooking areas for improvement that will create a more efficient and resilient supply chain.
Survey your system at least quarterly and look for patterns and problems that consistently emerge. When you’ve pinpointed these areas, work on implementing fixes, whether that means collecting demand data at more regular intervals or changing your pricing structure periodically to avoid an inventory glut. Even subtle changes help you avoid having small problems resonate throughout your operation and cause bigger issues.
One of the best times to look for areas for improvement is during a move, so don’t be afraid to relocate production lines from one part of the factory floor to another and revamp the operation from the ground up in the process. A good example of this is Flex, a manufacturing and supply chain services provider that frequently shifts small assembly lines to other buildings to improve productivity. Each time, they redesign processes to use less space and labor, thereby increasing productivity.
3. Use the latest tools and technologies.
If you’re still relying on traditional tools and processes, you’re missing out on some major improvements. “Today, manufacturers are under constant pressure to reduce costs, improve supply chain efficiency, and enhance revenue margins,” according to ThroughPut Inc co-founder and CEO Ali Hasan R. “With a lack of clear visibility into their supply chains due to manual reactive operational approaches and poor planning tools, they miss out on the much-needed deep insights. This keeps them from creating smooth, synchronized, and responsive supply chain plans to achieve the desired operational excellence.”
The solution? Tools that use demand-driven analysis and real-time inventory updates to more accurately forecast demand and offer a holistic view of each individual component of a supply chain. AI is increasingly serving as a cornerstone of these tools because the technology can increase accuracy while offering an ability to scale that human analysts will never be able to replicate. By implementing AI in demand forecasting, you can improve productivity, quality, and output while decreasing costs and reducing delays and disruptions. Incorporating Internet of Things devices can take improvements even further by arming AI tools with accurate data that’s produced in real time, enhancing their decision-making capabilities.
Supply chains are still reeling from the ongoing pandemic, but this massive global disruption certainly won’t be the last. That’s why it’s critical to start planning for future upheaval by building flexibility, efficiency, and the latest tools and technologies into your supply chain. Even in the best of times, your organization will net a significant return on your supply chain investments—and when the next black swan event arrives, you’ll be enjoying a competitive advantage instead of participating in a mad scramble to keep your operation afloat.
