1. The ABCs of Leadership by John Maxwell . This small but concise book is still readily available in bookstores, yet it is generally overshadowed by the rest of its author’s more renowned titles.
Maxwell has written and published more than 30 books among which he has some very successful bestsellers, among them: The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, Sometimes you want to and sometimes you learn, Everyone communicates but few connect, etc.
Although this book does not stand out among the most important titles of Maxwell, it is a compact but very rich in content paperback. Only 125 pages are enough for Maxwell to accurately explain the essential qualities of a leader.
2. Larry Hammons Teen & Youth Leadership. This book is only available used and you will hardly find it in bookstores. It is a small but practical and concise book. With only 100 pages Hammons manages to convey the way of exercising our leadership much better than any course or short video.
This is an excellent book for anyone who is starting or wants to take leadership foundations and although its title is focused on young people, anyone can read and immediately get tons of benefit from it.
3. The Warrior Ethos by Steven Pressfield . Pressfield has also been a very prolific author in recent years. He writes from fiction and non-fiction books, among which are The War of Art .

Honor, courage, loyalty and compassion are some of the principles that were part of the Samurai code. Diffenderffer lived much of his life in Eastern countries and was CEO of large multinational companies.
His experience and passion for oriental culture and business led him to write this excellent compendium of lessons that we will hardly see in other similar books.
5. The MOXIE Leader by John Baldoni . This book is still available in most bookstores, however I decided to put it on this list because in my opinion it has not received the amount of attention it deserves.
The MOXIE Leader should be considered one of the contemporary classics of leadership. A book that describes the modern leader who corresponds to the new generations.
Its title refers to the acronym moxie, talking about how to have an open body M, O pportunities find, develop your X Factor, I nnovar and E mprender.

In 2017, Harvard Business Review published the results of a decade-long study on the neuroscience of trust. A team of researchers led by Paul J. Zak, director of the Center for Neuroeconomics Studies at Claremont Graduate University, found that trust in the workplace had a positive impact on everything from company performance to employee turnover.
“Trust is like the air we breathe,” Warren Buffett once said. “When it is present, nobody really notices. But when it’s absent, everybody notices.” If you want to create a workplace where employees breathe easy and innovation isn’t stifled, you need to make trust a priority. Here are four reasons why a focus on trust in—and between—your employees is essential to your company’s success.
Trust Increases Productivity
Two of the most insidious productivity killers are lack of direction and micromanagement. When employees don’t know which goals and tasks are most important, they can’t commit to achieving them. And when forced to spend their time ticking a manager’s boxes instead of figuring out how to do what needs to be done, productivity plummets.

In high-trust organizations, employees are given autonomy. Managers set clear expectations and then let their people deliver on them however they think best. Being in control of their own work is a powerful motivator for employees: a Citigroup/LinkedIn survey found that 64% of respondents would turn down a 10% raise in favor of more flexibility in their work.
Like the proverbial chicken-and-egg dilemma, though, building an autonomous team takes trust. Yet the productivity payoff is clear: Zak’s team found that employees in high-trust organizations reported 50% higher productivity than their counterparts in low-trust ones, a result their own measures confirmed. The distrust conveyed by micromanagement, on the other hand, will cause productivity to crumble. 

Trust Enables Collaboration
The modern workplace thrives on collaboration. Research has shown, time and again, that teams of diverse individuals are better at solving problems and creating new solutions than individuals working alone. What business wouldn’t want to encourage that?
Not surprisingly, such collaboration also requires trust along a number of dimensions. First of all, team members need to trust that their colleagues are capable of doing their part of the shared work to a high standard. They also need to trust that their co-workers will be accountable for delivering by agreed-upon deadlines. Collaboration won’t work when—like those dreaded group school projects—one person ends up doing everything because they can’t count on other group members to pull their weight.
When contributing to a team effort, employees also need to trust that their individual contributions will be recognized. There are few things more motivating than being praised for your ideas—and few things more demoralizing (or infuriating) than having someone else steal them. High-trust teams give credit where credit is due, and that keeps collaboration humming.

Remember how the autonomy in high-trust organizations fuels productivity? Well, Zak and his research team found that it is also a vital ingredient in innovation. When employees are free to try a variety of problem-solving approaches, innovation results.  
Here, too, trust among team members is an essential ingredient for success. Individuals will be reluctant to point out innovation opportunities if identifying areas for improvement is synonymous with being a troublemaker. Managers must prove their trust in employees by being open to suggestions, even uncomfortable ones.
When it comes to proposing solutions, mutual trust is even more important. Team members will be hesitant to share their ideas if they fear their colleagues will dismiss or even ridicule them. Some of the most profitable ideas may look crazy at first glance. When respect for those who come up with them is lacking, your business will be the loser.
Trust Enables Conflict Resolution
Think about someone you really trust. Do you always agree with them? Chances are you don’t. Conflict occurs between even the happiest of married couples and long-time business partners. The reason their relationships endure is that they trust each other. They let that trust move them toward resolution instead of resentment.
As a business leader, the last thing you want to do is babysit your employees. While you certainly care for them, you have plenty of other pressing matters to attend to that don’t include getting in the middle of petty arguments. Instead, it’s time to get in front of the next disruption, and that means focusing on demand planning.
Demand planning is all about building an accurate forecast of future demand to try to meet customer needs as precisely as possible. Underestimating demand comes at the obvious cost of missed sales opportunities and decreased revenue, but overestimating can be just as costly because excess inventory takes up space and cash.
According to insights compiled by Deloitte in 2020, the companies that were best equipped to respond to the disruption driven by the pandemic had strong relationships with their suppliers and tools in place to offer visibility into their broader supply networks. Those lacking both supply chain visibility and the capacity for accurate projections were left scrambling to implement systems that should have been in place all along.
To make sure your organization is well-equipped for the next disruption, whether it’s a natural disaster, major weather event, labor upheaval, or something else entirely, implement demand planning with these three steps:

1. Stay flexible to reduce disruption and promote growth.
Much of supply chain management is about reducing the impact of disruption. If you depend entirely on a single supplier, for example, your supply chain is extremely rigid; good management might involve diversifying and adding a few suppliers to the roster. If that’s not possible, or if all your suppliers depend on a single source of raw materials—making diversification more difficult—you can maintain excess inventory to help you get through disruptions. This extra inventory ties up physical space and capital, so it should offer a realistic buffer without requiring an excessive investment.
A resilient supply chain doesn’t just help your company avoid catastrophe—it actually encourages growth. According to research from Bain & Co., resilient supply chains result in a 15%–25% increase in manufacturing output, a 40%–60% decrease in the time necessary for product development, and a 20%–30% boost in customer satisfaction. Don’t wait for the next disruption to start making the supply chain changes that can yield these benefits.

2. Change before you have to.
If the pandemic has taught us anything, it’s that massive disruptions demand a proportionally rapid and innovative response—and the organizations that fail to see the paradigm shift and respond in an appropriate and timely manner will likely get left behind. The best way to set yourself up for future disruptions is to make small changes now that are aimed at improving efficiency and supply chain resilience. If your existing processes have been adequate so far, you might still be overlooking areas for improvement that will create a more efficient and resilient supply chain.
Survey your system at least quarterly and look for patterns and problems that consistently emerge. When you’ve pinpointed these areas, work on implementing fixes, whether that means collecting demand data at more regular intervals or changing your pricing structure periodically to avoid an inventory glut. Even subtle changes help you avoid having small problems resonate throughout your operation and cause bigger issues.
One of the best times to look for areas for improvement is during a move, so don’t be afraid to relocate production lines from one part of the factory floor to another and revamp the operation from the ground up in the process.
